What Makes Our School Unique?
by Vanessa Renich, TLC Director
I was asked recently what made Talega Life Preschool different than any other preschool in our area. Below is a list of unique qualities that distinguish our school.
1. A Variety of Teaching Styles and Class Rotations I consider our teaching styles a mix of developmental and skill focus. The 3 year old classes are definitely developmental. The 4/5 year old classes infuse a variety of skill focus and developmental teaching approaches. Our daily schedule includes three 40 minute rotations throughout the am and pm sessions including:classroom, multi-purpose/art studio and outside.
2. Art Studio Each classroom rotates through the art studio everyday. Process art is encouraged. Process art means that the act of creating is more important than the finished product. We encourage creativity and imagination rather than producing “cookie cutter” art projects that all look the same. With four art tables filled with endless possibilities, master pieces take on a form on their own! The six foot long communal art easel hosts several artists at the same time engaging in priceless conversations while creating.
3. Large Inside Play Area Our multi-purpose room is equipped with sensory tables, dress-up clothes, a kid’s kitchen, dramatic play areas, listening center, puppet theater, music center and block area. Our gross motor development activities take place in this room. The children rotate through this area each day. We have enough open area for group games and gatherings. This room is wonderful on rainy days!
4. Traditional Christmas Pageant All of our children participate in our pageant which re-enacts the birth of Christ. Our Sanctuary is full of angels, shepherds, sheep and wise men. We supply all the costumes. The children love performing. It tops off your Christmas season to see your child as a star.
5. Weekly Chapel Program The children help act out the bible story on stage with props and drama. The children love to sing while Pastor Pondo plays his guitar. The children memorize one bible verse a month. We encourage children to love kindness and to treat each other the way they would wish to be treated themselves. Each child has the opportunity to help with prayer, the Bible verse and the flag salute.
6. School Library We have developed a large school library this year. We currently have approximately 800 books. Every child has the opportunity to check out one book a week to take home and share with their family. Fostering a love of literature early in life makes such a difference in your child’s education.
7. Outstanding Staff I can not say enough about our dedicated teachers at TLC. They are amazing! Each teacher brings their unique skills here to our school. I have rarely worked at any school where the staff is so compatible. Each teacher freely shares ideas and activities with the rest of the staff. There is definitely a camaraderie here at Talega Life that is rare and refreshing.
8. New Enrichment Program We offer a Kindergarten Come Back Class which is designed for current Kindergartners (not over the age of 6) who want to fine tune their academic skills. We also offer, gymnastics, Tai Kwon Don, spanish and a music class.
9. Lunch Bunch A relaxing time to simply enjoy friends, conversation and lunch together. This two hour program also gives parents the opportunity to check a few more items off their lists!
10. Summer Program Your child can enjoy a themed summer program at our preschool. Last summer we enjoyed Art Camp, Science Camp, Water week, and Space Camp! Every Friday we celebrate with snow cones! Summer 2011 schedule will be out the first week in May.
11. New Facility & Playground Our spacious modern facility opened four years ago. We make it a priority to keep the school clean & organized. We added a new large grass area to our existing playground. Now our friends have room to kick the ball, shoot some hoops and run like the wind.
12. On Campus Field Trips The thought of logistically getting 70 children to a field trip location makes my head hurt. So, we have field trips come to us. Captain Carl brings his traveling tide pools, Miss Summer turns our parking lot into a farm, our sand box gets converted to a Dino-dig and the Lizard Wizard shows us all God's creatures right in our own classrooms.
Please call to asks me lots of questions and set up a tour! I hope to hear from you soon.
